Social Dancing: My Passion, My Dream, and a way to a Beautiful life.

I resumed my weekend dance classes after my kids went off to college. When my teacher went on his dancing tour, I suddenly felt lost and incomplete and realized social dancing was healing me from my empty nest syndrome and made me contended, peaceful, and relaxed.

Social Dancing is a Language

Social dancing is a language that two people communicate with their eyes, hands, and bodies without speaking. In the dance of lead and follow, two beings flow in oneness and are lost in the music. In these moments, the time stops, problems diminish, and everything is magical. Sometimes the feeling is joyous, sometimes soulful, and other times just emotional. We often spend our lives craving for that feeling of companionship, compatibility, and belonging at the right place at the right moment and with the right person, but it seems like a far-fetched dream or wish. We accomplish all this within a 3-5 minute song as we float in togetherness, understanding, and calmness with our dance partner.Age, height, weight, colour, caste, creed or any other factors that could separate two individual human beings otherwise brings them close as they tune their feet and body to the sound of the music. Sometimes, even if you dance with someone for the first time, you may experience a connection that would go beyond any memories.

True Understanding

Just as it’s true for any relationship, the leader understands that he is incomplete without his partner and leads her through the journey of dance, with understanding and respects her limitations, boundaries, and identity. The follower maintains her composure, balance, and weight as she lets the lead take pride in giving her the magical moments. The lead also enjoys the feeling of achievement as he delicately and softly guides her to the breath-taking flow of movement as she twists and twirls and flows with the rhythm of music.

I recommend

I feel that partner dancing should be a part of every college curriculum. This is a fine way to get rid of awkwardness between sexes. They will learn to respect and value each other’s minds, bodies, and souls. It can also help in eliminating or reducing the hierarchy in organisations, as bosses and employees mingle and dance in companionship and fondness, help in breaking the ice, build rapport, and create a more beautiful work environment.

My Feelings

For me, I feel social dancing has helped me make a better person. I have become calmer, more tolerant, and patient. Kizomba is one dance form that is very close to meditation it relaxes and soothes the mind and body. Tango helps a woman keep her identity and lets her play with music while her partner allows her to finish her moves. Bachata is swaying and letting your whole body sail away with the sensual music. Semba is enlightening with its peppy beats and salsa is energizing with its fast turns and movements.

All other forms of recreation and entertainment like watching movies, going to a restaurant, sitting, and gossiping become invaluable when one gets addicted to the wonderful passion of social dancing.
